Default Best Way To Jailbreak 3G Running 4.1?

Trying to help my lady chum jailbreak her 3G, but not quite sure which method to recommend. I thought she could use limerain, but apparently that tool doesn't work on the 3G. I'm reading about redsnow and greenpoison, but I'm not really up on the latest methods for 3G, since I use a 3GS, for which limerain worked just fine.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? She's looking for an untethered jailbreak, preferably something that's easy to pull off. Not sure if there's anything out there as easy as limerain, but if there is, that would be really awesome. Either way, I appreciate any info anyone can send my way. Much obliged and thanks for your time.

Well I just looked into redsnow, it looks far more complicated than limerain. This worries me a bit, as there are a few too many moving parts involved and too many chances that something might go wrong. Ah well, I suppose the search continues. Thanks for your time anyhow, folks. Rest assured, it's appreciated.

redsn0w is not hard at all. I gave you a step by step guide. Just follow it and you will be fine. For a 3G on 4.1 it is your easiest choice.

Okay well I sent the guide to my lady chum and she tried it out. It worked and the phone is now jailbroken- but all her apps are gone. As is all her data; contacts, settings, etc. Somehow the phone did a totally clean restore. The iclarified guide doesn't mention that's part of the process. If it had, I'm not sure she would have done it. Is this normal in using redsnow, or did something go wrong in the jailbreaking process? Also, does anyone know if she can just restore from one of her backups, to get her data back? I know she'd lose the jailbreak if she did that, but it might be worth it to get the data and settings back.

Anyone have any light they can shine on this maybe?

Contacts, photos and videos can always be synced back to the iphone. She will have to setup her emails and other stuffs again.
If she has some important stuffs like notes, sms she want to retrieve, you can do a restore again and then from itunes, do a backup restore > choose the restore that she needed to restore, some will have a date on it (from the pull down backup restore)

redsnow doesnt restore or wipe the phone at all, so at some point she must have done that herself. The guide does say to restore to 4.1 at the beginning if not on it already. But she was already on 4.1 so there was no need to do this, but apparently she did. As Yeow said iTunes keeps backups so it is just a matter of connecting it and choosing to restore the most recent backup itunes has for her phone and everything should be the way it was the last time she synced.

Well she restored from a backup and that seems to have brought back a lot of her data. Amazingly, the stuff she was most worried about was data from some online game she's obsessed with and thankfully, that all was back when she restored. And the jailbreak is still there too, so now she has the best of both worlds, sort of.

Thanks for all the help you guys provided, I really appreciate it.
