jb 3gs wont sync with itunes but will with iphoto

jb iphone 3gs 3.1.3
macbook 10.5.8

recently updated my computer to 10.5.8 and now my iphone doesnt show up in itunes 9.0.2 but it does in iphoto 6.0.6 and the battery charges when connected to my computer.

should i upgrade itunes? or is there some other issue i should look at? (i have been searching this forum for about an hour and i cant find anything thats helping me)

Ya, try updating iTunes first to see if that helps.
