    Default 3G on 3.1.3 upgrade/JB question

I have a 3g that is really flaky right now(slow, must reboot for voicemails to show up, etc), and I would really like to upgrade to 4.2 and JB it again, but I was unable to do this with 4.1 (details in the last couple pages of SnowBREEZE official final download). It apparently wouldn't see Cydia after the restore, and hung at the Apple logo.

It was my understanding that 4.2 already had a JB out for it, and now that it's out, I'm wondering if I can pull this off, or if I'll have the same issues as I did when trying to go to a custom 4.1 build.

    Thanks!

(I'm kind of a newb, so if this is already discussed somewhere, feel free to slap me & send me in the right direction).

First, I hope you have used Tiny Umbrella to save your 4.0 and higher SHSH blobs.

    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella

Next ... You should stay at 3.1.2/3 until the very latest (4.2.1) has been thoroughly tested and w/good reviews. Why? Speed! A 3G is limited and 3.x provides the best speed/feature combo to date.

I have used TU to save them. My 3.1.3 install is seriously jacked, and I really need to do something ASAP. I know there are plenty of custom builds out there above 3.1.3, I just need to know what version will work on a 3G.

For a 3G with 4.x SHSH blobs, pretty much all work. It just depends upon jb or jb+unlock.

Here is a list of tutorials, select the 3G ones from this list based upon the version you want to load, mac or pc, jb or jb+unlock, and everything you need is there:

    iClarified - Tutorials - iPhone

As I said before, 3.1.3 is the best performer of all on a 3G.

Well, this thing was so screwed up, I had no choice. I dowloaded a custom 4.1 ipsw, installed it and ran redsn0w 0.9.6b1, which ran flawlessly and I an now JB'd and my phone is running much, MUCH better.

The only snag is that Cydia doesn't appear to realize that I had previously purchased MiWi version 3.(?). Anyone know if the "3 version" is compatible with IOS v4.1? Maybe it doesn't show because it's no longer functional (in v4.1). Well done redsn0w!

iOS 4 requires MyWi 4. Prior owners pay an upgrade charge of 1/2 full price (appx $10). There is an upgrade process on Cydia/MyWi4

Yes, what you paid for was for 3.xx fw, now the MyWi 4.0, you just pay additional $10.

Thanks, that's what I figured. This phone is soooooo much happier now. My 3.1.3 install must have been totally trashed.
