Default Upgrade to 4.2 on iPhone 4?

    Hi there,

I'm not really using the jailbreak features at the moment, and don't unlock my iPhone (iphone 4). (Tbh, the only application I jailbreak for is biteSMS). So i was wondering if it was possible for me to upgrade to 4.2 (currently using 4.1 JB with greenposi0n), preserving all my apps and data? Usually I just restore the phone and start fresh, however this time I'd rather not.

I have my 4.1 SHSH blobs incase I want to downgrade.

Yes you can just update. All your apple apps and data will remain.

Ah ok then thanks. I didn't now if it would be some huge error with parts of the jailbreak still in place or anything.

I wouldnt say there is zero percent chance that it may error meaning you would have to restore. But it shouldnt, I have done it countless times and have been fine. Make sure you have a recent backup in itunes just in case.

Ah ok then. One questions about the backups... What happens if I restore a backup which is from a jailbroken state?

Most of the time you should be fine restoring from a jailbroken backup. Occasionally if you had a problem before a backup can bring back that problem but you should be fine.

Just a quick warning for anyone reading this. If you use TinyUmbrella to backup your SHSH blobs, read this article I found.... I tried upgrading, it couldn't connect to the apple verification server, so wiped the phone and it had to be restored... .So don't make my mistake.

Ya, hosts have to be pointing to Apple for a legit update. Good to point out though.

Ah ok then. Well as you can see in my post below... it didn't go quite to plan. It's currently restoring from a backup now though so hopefully it'll be fine.
