Iphone 4 upgraded to 4.2(big mistake) but just a simple question.
I have to mention that i've readed the "General Info & Jailbreaking Guides" but i still want to say and ask something.I have this Iphone 4 with iOS 4.2(updated from itunes). Before doing this mistake i had 4.1 with 02.10.04 modem version of course locked but on hold for the unlock to be released. Now because i`ve upgraded like a stupid man i am
for a few moments i had my phone locked for good(stuck on insert a sim to activate your iphone)..i've searched over the internet a guide to downgrade back to 4.1 and after some time i've found a tool(adding some ip in hosts(system 32 folder) ) ..anyway i've made the downgrade and jailbreak succesufuly again, made a backup also from itunes and got all my stuff back but now i`m stuck with the new baseband(f*** me). Now there is my big and maybe stupid question..can i do something about this ? because i have a feeling that i will have to wait looong time to unlock my phone ..yes ? ..i`ve readed something in the jailbreak guide..something about downgrading from 4.1 to 4.0.x ..and the thing is possible if you have the shsh saved(wich i don't have) this downgrade is reffering to baseband also ? If yes and there is a small posibility to downgrade can i find shsh for download over the internet ? thank you very much and i`m waiting for a reply. Please guys do not be mad on me because i've opened a new thread :P

Your baseband is updated, you cannot downgrade your baseband no matter you what do.
Yes, you may have to wait a long time before you can unlock your 4.2 baseband.

Actually I think you can downgrade baseband on a iPhone 4 BUT only if Apple is still signing that previous firmware (which as of right now they are still signing 4.1). So if you go right now and downgrade to 4.1 there is a chance your baseband will be downgraded back to 2.10.04. Hurry though as Apple could literally pull the plug on this at any minute. Make sure you dont use tiny umbrella and that your hosts are not modified to point to cydia.

Baseband cannot be downgraded. If apple is still signing 4.1, it just means that you don't have to verify though Cydia to downgrade firmware from 4.2 to 4.1

Beg to differ Yeow. On a iPhone 4 because of the new SHSH they have instituted on the baseband as well as the firmware as long as Apple is still signing a firmware then the baseband can be downgraded. Since Apple is still signing 4.1 then a iPhone 4 can have it's baseband downgraded by restoring to 4.1. Once Apple stops signing it then there will be no way to downgrade baseband, not even with regular SHSH for 4.1.

When you restored back to 4.1 did you get an error near the end of the process and have to kick out of it with tiny umbrella?
No you would have to shift-click restore to 4.1 again but make sure you are not running tiny umbrella and that your hosts are pointed to Apple, not cydia.Last edited by Simon; 11-24-2010 at 06:59 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Use Exit recovery from the feature of tiny umbrella to get out.

Basically just do the restore again but this time do not use tiny umbrella and make sure your hosts are pointed to apple. If unsure then open tiny umbrella, click on advanced and deselect the option that says set hosts to cydia on exit. Then exit tiny umbrella and proceed to shift-click restore to 4.1. You should get no error this time and your baseband should be downgraded.
Here is just proof of what I am talking about. It is a old tweet by Musclenerd but it applies to this situation too: TwitterLast edited by Simon; 11-24-2010 at 07:08 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Originally from Musclenerd. Hence the twitter link. People were using this method when 4.1 came out to downgrade baseband back to a unlockable 1.59.00. But it only worked for the few days that Apple was still signing 4.0.2. After that it became impossible again. But now we are in a similar situation, as long as Apple is still signing the firmware and baseband of 4.1 then iPhone 4 can downgrade baseband to 2.10.04.
But Hosts file MUST be pointed to Apple, not Cydia and tiny umbrella TSS server cannot be running, otherwise you will get that 1004 error and it will fail.

It is not the baseband , did you know that 4.0 , 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 all share the same baseband. When you downgrade the firmware from 4.0.2 to 4.0, your baseband has not changed at 01.59.xx, it does look like the baseband has been downgraded but it is not, it is just because the baseband didn't change.

Yeow, you arent understanding me. I know the basebands were all the same for 4.0/4.0.1/4.0.2. It is the 4.1 baseband I was talking about. When 4.1 first came out and Apple was still signing 4.0.2 iPhone 4's were able to downgrade baseband. Read that thread I linked to. Post #5

Yes, i did, but it was Orb who says you can downgrade the baseband, downgrading a firmware from 4.0.2 to 4.0, which shares the same baseband. do me a favour, why don't you try it out downgrade your firmware from 4.2.1 to 4.1 since you have already upgraded your baseband and see if you can downgrade the baseband. It is impossible.
