Tried jailbreaking

Ya having a busted home or power button can make things very interesting. I have done a few of these though (did one today).

2: If you REALLY want to stay on 4.1 and jailbreak then your road is a bit harder and longer. It can be done though. It will require going back to 3.1.2, using blackra1n so that your device is pwned then you should be able to restore to a 4.1 custom firmware made with sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 (not 2.1).

Both of these methods do not require dfu.

does this mean i can just update restore thru itunes to the newest update an still be able to unlock an use a different company not att&T

You will still have to jailbreak to use ultrasn0w and all the current jailbreaks require dfu mode.

the new redsn0w can jailbreak it right?

No, you cannot use redsn0w to jailbreak, you will have to restore to 4.1 which updates your baseband in order to use redsn0w.
Itunes is fine.

Use Redsn0w to put you into DFU mode and then shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.1 for 3g to preserve your baseband.

btw my iphone doesant go past that screen where it has the itunes icon an the white usb cable

There is nothing difficult, as long as you are restoring to CFW, you will not get locked out. The only difficult part is to get to DFU mode because of your home button is messed up.
