I think it's more than the iPhone 4.

From my understanding (and I haven't dug through iBoot yet) is that iBoot is checking the baseband's installed firmware and disallowing booting up if the baseband version doesn't match what iOS 4.2.1 states is the allowed BB version.

I also believe that the check occurs inside of the bootrom hard-coded sig-check area of iBoot on the 3GS and 4--therefore adding another layer of tamper-resistance.

This is getting ugly. Really ugly... Custom firmware to preserve baseband may have just been kicked in the nuts with incredible force.

So you are saying this could impact custom firmwares too then. Damn, Apple is starting to play a little hardball.

I think it gets worse. What do y'all make of this?

    Private Paste - Pastie

I'm afraid that doesn't mean wireless iTunes media syncs, but rather, wireless updates... (I need a drink).

Yep .. Ugly . When Apple 1st included sig checks in iBoot, I doubted that was the end it. Their engineers are pretty smart too
