jailbreaking 4.0.1, I'm doing something wrong....

I have an iPhone 3g on 4.0.1 software (it was on 3.1.3 and I upgraded) and it was jailbroken (however I cant remember how I did it.. I remember it was extremely frustrating :P I possibly used Sn0wbreeze?) But I was jailbroken at 4.0.1, thats all that matters.

This morning I woke up and my phone was dead.. It was not charging even though it was plugged in allllll night.. I was advised to do a reset where you hold the power and home button, and this put it into Recovery Mode (the screen where it has the USB and the iTunes icon) and iTunes said it was in recovery mode and had to be restored... I browsed for about 3 hours day trying to figure out how to pull it out of it, tried a few tricks like tiny umbrella, nothing worked.. So i did a Shift+Restore back onto 4.0.1 and I tried to go to Jailbreakme.com and it is telling me that the "File received was invalid" and didnt see much info on this after googling it.

I tried to use Sn0wbreeze to jailbreak it but its saying my IPSW is invalid (even though its the one i restored to) and I am just about ready to lose my mind.

WHAT am I doing wrong? How can I get this piece of crap jailbroken again?

use sn0wbreeze to cook a 4.1 firmware then download ireb from ih8sn0w.com and put in dfu mode and ireb will do its thing then shift+restore to the cooked 4.1 firmware

sn0wbreeze isnt recognizing my firmware, i cant do anything with that program.

Used iReb and got the green light (literally) saying i could use a custom firmware. But cant get the custom firmware since Sn0wbreeze is being a ***** and saying its not valid!

Perhaps build another firmware with Sn0wbreeze and try again.

Yes I do, downloaded it today off of ih8snow.com... version 2.1.. Its not giving me the option to create custom firmware, it wants me to load my IPSW (which I loaded into it) and it says its invalid.. I restored to that same firmware today so i know it works

He'll have to have redsn0w 0.9.6b2 also and a 4.1 regular (not custom) firmware to use redsn0w to put in DFU mode I believe, he's on a windows machine.

yea to use redsn0w you do need a non custom firmware.. but if you dont need an unlock you could do a normal restore then redsn0w to jb

^agreed, but OP did not state if unlock was needed so I thought I would add that.

I have sent birdtail a custom copy, hopefully this will get him going. Make sure you are using Itunes 10.1

Since you are with ATNT, you will have to install Ultrasn0w in order to get service because this copy is activated.

i did it with 9.2 today no prob to my bros iphone dont know how but worked just fine
