Quick Question - Only Experts
Hi,
I'm running 3.1.2 on a 3G that's jailbroken. I want to upgrade to 4.0 or higher without risking a baseband upgrade and for future unlock-ability. What is the quickest method which does not require a complete wipe and transfer of all files from backup?
Thank you.

Your only way is to use a custom restore to go to 4.1 and preserve baseband. There is no other way.

I'm on Windows. Which program does the trick? QuickPWN, redsn0w, blackra1n, jailbreakme, or any other?
I did not want wipe and transfer the files because I would loose the jailbroken apps. Any efficient backup app out there?
Thanks.

You could use sn0wbreeze but it has a lot of issues for iPhone 3G. What you need to do is find a custom 4.1 made with pwnage tool (google). Then use redsn0w 0.9.6b3 to put the iphone in a pwned dfu state so that you can restore to the custom firmware.

I have the custom ISPW however, I want to backup all my jailbroken apps before doing the wipe. Is there any efficient method out there?
Thanks.
