Error 1004
I have a factory unlocked iPhone 4 on 4.1 Everything great, right? Well not quiet... I had to do a restore and did it through iTunes... Through the proses, past half the restore bar on the device iTunes game me a message that it had an error (1004) and could not restore!!!! I almost s..t my pants!! I used Tinyumbrella to exit restore mode and averything is great now, but I don not know what the f..k happened!!!
If I have a factory unlocked iPhone I should not have ANY trouble restoring or upgrading, right? Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Then you can just restore to 4.1 or even 4.2, mine is factory unlocked, i restored to 4.1 and jailbreak it. It is a good to have the latest baseband too.

You got that error because tiny umbrella sets your hosts to cydia upon exit which has the same effect as running the TSS server for people wanting to preserve their baseband. If you want to do a clean restore without the error since you have a factory unlocked you need to go into tiny umbrella, go into advanced and unselect the box that says set hosts to cydia upon exit. Then exit tiny umbrella and you should be good to restore without getting that error.

Thanks. I've already got past that error and successfully installed all my apps and music/videos again (did not restore, though) through iTunes. I'll keep in mind your advice for the next time or and if that happens when I update to 4.2...

Factory unlock is so wonderful, you can just go to setting > carrier > it will search all available GSM for you.
