[3GS-3.1.3] Should i / Can i upgarde ?

Hello everyone,

I have a jailbroken iPhone 3Gs with the following specs :

Version : 3.1.3 ( 7E18 )
Modem Firmware : 05.12.01

It's been a while since i've kept myself up to date with the jailbreak news, so i wanted to know if it was possible ( recommended ) for me to update my iPhone and keep it jailbroken ?

I've used the spirit Jailbreak and Ultrasn0w for the carrier unlock

My SHSH is saved with Cydia

Any info is much appreciated.

If you want to go to 4.1 and stay unlocked you will need to use pwnage tool to creat a custom 4.1 and restore to that so that your baseband is preserved. If you have SHSH for 4.0/4.0.1/4.0.2 then you can use tiny umbrella to restore to one of those firmwares, use limera1n to jailbreak then ultrasn0w to unlock again.

SHSH: iOS 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1

Does is mean that i can use Tiny Umbrella ?

What would you advise me ?

Yes you can use tiny umbrella. If you dont have access to a mac to use pwnage tool I would suggest just using tiny umbrella and restore to 4.0.2 and use limera1n or restore to 4.0.1 and use jailbreakme.com.

Hello,

I Used TinyUmbrella to download my shsh files
Then i created a custom 4.1 restore using Pwnage Tool but the restore doesn't go well.
I tried with iTunes 9, and 10. I get an error message during the custom restore.

The iphone was stuck in DFU mode then i the iTunes Logo.

So i tried restoring it using an original 3.1.3 ipsw which put it back to its jailbroken 3.1.3 state

Did i do something wrong ?

Are you using a Mac or PC ?

You should update your itunes to 10. You must use Pwnage tools to put you into DFU mode and then shift + restore to CFW of 4.1

Hi,

I'm using a mac.

I updated iTunes to version 10 and used pwnage Tool to both create the custom ipsw and put the phone in DFU Mode.

But shortly after the restore operation starts, iTunes displays an error message..

Error saying that "the iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured"


The serial number starts with : 5K0132

The first 5 serial number from the left cannot have alphabets, only numbers.

My phone's serial number is alphanumeric.

The IMEI and ICCID are a combination of numbers only.

I had the error number
and itunes once said that the device isn't eligible for the requested build.

If you are trying to restore to the custom firmware you need to open pwnage and have it put the iphone into dfu. Once you get the success message then you open itunes and option-restore to the custom 4.1 you made. Do not use tiny umbrella at all during this. Make sure it is closed. If you do not use pwnage tool to put it in dfu you will get a 1600 error. If you try this and get another error make note of it and let us know hat it is.

ok, so the restore went well (eventhough i did nothing different from before.

I downloaded this ipsw : iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore
which i modified using PwnageTool, put the phone in DFU mode and restored with the custom restore file.

The baseband is still on 5.12.01 but i have no signal.
An unlock seems necessary right ?


A black screen is displayed when i launch Cydia ..
