Please help me with my iPhone 3gs
Greetings forum users,
I have a pretty big problem with my 32gb iphone 3gs.
I purchased it the other day as a gift for my girlfriend, and then decided to "Reset" all the settings, which sadly erased the OS (it's now stuck at the apple logo) I was using, leaving no other way to recover it except by using the official iPhone 4.1 firmware, which currently has no way to be unlocked (since I live in Costa Rica, I need it to work with our local carrier).
Is there any way I can upgrade or install the firmware without losing my carrier unlock? I have shsh blobs saved all the way from 3.1 up until 4.2b3 (according to tinyumbrella); they are also saved on my desktop.
I'm on a MAC.
Cliffnotes:
iPhone stuck after reset, now in DFU mode.
SHSH Blobs saved.
Was using 4.0 or 4.1
Need to recover my iphone with jailbreak and carrier unlock.
Can download any file or follow any guide.
Thank you very much. By helping me, you will also spread the knowledge and allow me to enlight others that may have the problem.

If you have updated your iphone at some point to 4.1 , then you have lost your unlock. So my question is , did you restore to 4.1 ?

No, I have not restored it yet. The phone was working unlocked until yesterday, when I reset it.
I possibly had iOS version 4.0.1 or something, since it was working unlocked... I didn't check it.Last edited by Farukm; 11-10-2010 at 06:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Never ever reset network settings or it will mess up your iPhone. My previous 3GS was mess up after I reset network settings and it went into brick mode. Now on iPhone4 never ever will I do it again.

u can play it safe and use umbrella and push the phone up to 4.1 while retaining your basebamd so it would still be unlockable.

Sure , I can help you with that. so you only have a Mac, am i right ?
Download Pwnage tools 4.1.2 and download the official 3gs official 4.1 firmware.
Update your itunes to the latest.
Plug in your iphone
Run Pwnage tools 4.1.2 to create a custom firmware of 4.1 and it will be placed on your desktop named Custom_4.1.ipsw
Now once you have created the CFW, you will be asked to put your iphone into DFU mode.
Once you are in DFU mode, Itunes will open up if not open up itunes and
Press Alt/Option and then press Restore ( Itunes) , a box will pop up for you to browse the firmware.
You browse to the custom_4.1.ipsw on your desktop.
Let it restore and once restored , you are already jailbroken at 4.1
Open up Cydia and install Ultrasn0w to unlock.Last edited by iYeow; 11-10-2010 at 06:27 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Thank you yeow202 and the rest for all your help and comments. The iPhone 3gs is now working perfectly with jailbreak and any carrier unlock!
If you ever come by Costa Rica, I'm buying a beer (or soda-)

yes, as with all restores you lose everything that was on the phone, just make sure to sync before the restore and then sync afterwards to put your contacts, songs, etc. back on the phone

Do you want to go with custom firmware ? I have one made up
For old bootrom, I usuall go with a prejailbroken iphone to restore to a custom firmware.
But since you are at stock, you can go with geohot's exploit using his special dfu mode and restore to custom fw created by Pwnage tools. Success rate for new bootrom is good but old bootrom, i have yet to test it out.Last edited by iYeow; 11-15-2010 at 02:04 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
