Jailbreak and Unlock 3GS 3.1.3 from by DFU mode

So i broke up my iphone by jailbreaking my iphone 3gs with 3.1.3 by limera1n


it got stuck on apple logo and then its battery went down not dead but isn't recharging and if it recharges for sometime then goes down again


luckily if i'm able to get into DFU mode and itunes recognizes and even limera1n is able to recogniza and jailbreak as new again



so i wanted to know if there was any jailbreak for 3.1.3 for 3gs which does jailbreak after DFU like limera1n

i also want to unlock it later,so if you mention any software also tell me the compatible unlock solution with that jailbreak



if this doesn't work then can i restore through pwnage tool and then unlock



another thing some people suggested me shsh but i don't know where to find it and how to use it and after withdrawing how to use it in itunes to restore



please suggest all the links,last time i went and searched on my own this happened.

You cannot jailbreak your 3gs at 3.1.3 with Limera1n. You can restore to Custom firmware created by Pwnage tools 4.1.2 to get to IOS 4.1

also how custom firmware works,i mean how to put it on through itunes

If you don't have a Mac, then you have to google search for a custom fw of 4.1 created by Pwnage tools 4.1.2
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 for PC to help you to get into DFU mode (check only "put into DFU mode" and you will need the stock 4.1 when you first start to run redsn0w, remember you are not using Redsn0w to jailbreak )
Once you are in DFU mode , Open up itunes and press shift + restore and browwse to the cfw of 4.1 ipsw which you have already downloaded.
You must also make sure you update your itunes to version 10.
Once restored you can unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydia.

yes you can unlock 4.1 using a custom firmware because a custom firmware preserves the baseband here is a guide for using redsn0w to update to 4.1 since you don't have a mac and can't use pwnagetool

1)i can get my phone myself into dfu my the manual way,do i still need redsnow

@and why should i not use red snow to jailbreak,will the custom firmware already be jailbroken

2)are there different versions of redsnow,if then please suggest a link for the best one

3)can't i just download any firmware from here and then shift plus restore method.i am thinking of doing the following

update my phone to the listed 4.0 firmware

i can unlock in both the firmware

i was able to get into dfu with hold power and home and then leave power button menthod

even dfu helper was able to push me into it

and itunes recognized it


also did 4.2 firmware got released,i saw a person commenting that itunes is trying to update to 4.2

After you jailbreak your iphone, what you want is Cydia, you have to install an unlock tool like Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock your baseband.
Only factory unlock iphones does not use Ultrasn0w.

You can try this if you want to go for 4.1.
Run Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 to put you into DFU mode.
Create a custom firmware of 4.1 from Snowbreeze 2.0.2
Once you are at DFU mode, Shift + Restore to the Snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw which you have created from Snowbreeze.

You don't use Redsn0w to jailbreak, you only use it to put you into DFU mode. Check mark the last box that say put into dfu mode.

Those the 3.1.3 and 4.0 are stock firmware, unless you want to update/reflash your baseband, you don't have to do this, remmeber you objective is to restore to custom firmware.

There is no such thing as unlock app, however there is something called unlock tool named Ultrasn0w.

USB is just a connecting cable, it will not unlock for you.
You need either 3g or wifi to Update Cydia and install Ultrasn0w.

my phone worked with my old carrier,the contract locked one.but i don't have that sim now so what is it activated or unactivated


i heard that sometimes custom firmware gives some error

will that happen here

as dev team has said they will release an unlock so i could straight load the original firmware?
