Jailbreakme & iPhone4 4.2 ???
Hi all
I have a question/concern I hope someone can clarify for me.
I have iPhone 4 running 4.1 and I'm jailbroken. I used jailbreakme.com to do so.
My understanding is that jailbreakme was a firmware jailbreak that is not patchable by Apple updates.
So my question is this, do I need to be concerned about the upcoming 4.2 update? Will my jailbreak hold? Should I not update?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Yea jailbreakme only works on 4.0 to 4.0.1 devices u must use limerain or greenpoison to jailbreak a iPhone 4 on 4.1 so 4.2 will be a new jailbreak I don't see limera1n working for it maybe greenpoison with shatter but limera1n does not work for any betas 4.2 and if u update in any way u wil lose all info and maybe if u are unlocked u will lose that to and have to redo everything

jailbreakme was a userland jailbreak that was patched when Apple released 4.0.2, so you did not jailbreak 4.1 with it. The exploit that limera1n and greenpoison use is a bootrom exploit meaning it is unpatchable by a software update. For limera1n/greenpoison to work on 4.2 it just has to be reworked a bit just like every time a new update comes out redsnow has to be updated. It is doubtful limera1n will be updated but greenpoison/redsnow/pwnage tool should get updated in time as they all now use the same exploit used in limera1n.
Shatter is a completely different bootrom exploit which will not and should not be used until after apple has released new hardware that patches the limerain exploit.

This is really bizarre because I did not use limerain or greenpoison to jailbreak my phone. I used jailbreakme and I am running 4.1.
I'll just avoid 4.2 till more info is available.
thanks anyway.

Let me make this more simple.
You must ALWAYS be concerned when updating to a new Apple firmware.
Just like our excellent jb'ing team finds holes in Apples code, Apple in turn closes those holes and attempts to further prevent/restrict jb'ing and unlocking. A constant cat and mouse game.
Sometimes, always and forever are not always and forever
