So this guy who owns a cell phone stores usually calls me up when he has a new iPhone for me to jb and unlock. Today, he gave me an iPhone 3G to fix. It was on the emergency call screen but had a pop up that said something about the device not being able to make or receive calls and should contact Apple.
I figure I'd do a restore to 3.1.3. Did that, it processed, it worked, it was fine except the same screen came up. Same pop up too. Stuck my AT&T SIM in and iTunes told me no SIM inserted. Tried two different SIMs and same thing. Ran redsn0w 0.9.4 on it, the process went thru for the first portion with DFU mode, loaded kernals etc, then nothing. Just a blank black screen. Probably stuck in DFU mode but the jb process didnt continue.
Tried it twice. I then checked and apparently the IMEI AND ICCID were completely wiped. All it said was 0000000000 in both. Either the phone got messed up by a very talented previous owner or it is reported stolen/lost and is blocked, right?
I don't know for sure if it is stolen/lost so that's why I am asking if the IMEI and ICCID tells something about it. If it is stolen/lost and reported, I know I can't fix it. If not, anybody know how to fix it?
Lol you always find something mean to say about my username! I decided to add a leaf, b/c you and I discussed about turning a new leaf lol. So it's me+new leaf
Annie, I don't think phones can have their seczone's remotely wiped by anything other than a really powerful magnet... because if the IMEI was actually wiped, then it would not only lose its unique tracking info on the network's end, but it could connect to another GSM network without raising too many red flags (and therefore would be in violation of several FCC regulations methinks).
Now what is more likely IMO is something in the baseband's hardware got FUBARed-- probably the processor, or maybe the NOR chip.
If that's the case, that'd be the second phone I've seen here in the past two days that's had bad BB hardware.
