No thats not what he is saying. If you are already on 4.1 with that baseband there is no way for you to unlock yet. But hopefully will be very soon.

Using custom firmware will preserve your baseband at what you have now and it will not touch your baseband. If you restore to stock 4.1 ipsw, your baseband will be updated and lose your unlock.
