Iphone wont update.

Hey guys wondering if anyone could help me out.

Am currently have an iphone 3G running OS3.1, After cydia stopped working I restored the phone and jalibroke it again (still on 3.1) but after restoring, cydia still doesn't load.

So I decided to try a different firmware then jailbreak again.

Problem is I cant get the phone to update to 3.1.2 or even 4.0

after the restore nears completion, I just get an error from iTunes.

so at the mo im stuck on 3.1 and cydia isnt working.

anyone have any suggestions on how to get the phone to upgrade?
