Question about tinyumbrella.

Using 3gs old bootrom

I start tinyumbrella and select the firmware and start the tss server

I run PWNAGE tool and when I get to putting the iphone into duf mode and then tiny unbrella does not reconize the phone anymore and I get 1600 error when trying to restore to custom ispw.

Anybody got any suggestions.

Are you upgrading to 4.1? or an earlier version. Right now, TU isn't need w/4.1

If an earlier version, the 16xx errorx are usually at the end of the restore AFTER TU has done it's job. so it's no longer needed. Any errors when starting the server? Not sure where to lead you .... but did you try it again? More details pls

Ok here is what I am trying.

3gs old boot rom at 4.0 wanting to update to 4.1 using PWNAGE Tool 4.1.2

I start tinyumbrella and select the firmware version of this phone then select start tss server all looks ok.

Start PWNAGE Tool 4.1.2 and create custom ispw and then put iphone into duf mode according to PWANAGE Tool it is a success.

Close PWNAGE Tool 4.1.2 as instructed and then do the option restore in Itunes.

Itunes prepares the custom ispw and then it says preparing the Iphone and after a few seconds it gives me the 1600 error.

You don't have to use tiny umbrella to do the restore.
Just run Pwnage tools 4.1.2 , to put you into dfu mode and when you are already at dfu mode, do the Shift + Restore to custom firmware of 4.1
