how can i update my firmware from 3.1.2 to 3.2 or above . my 3g is jailbroke and unlocked . i need to keep it unlocked . thanks for any help

Build a custom firmware with pwnagetool or snowbreeze

If you are on windows just download sn0wbreeze and a copy of the 4.1 firmware. Make a custom 4.1 with it then shift-click restore to that custom firmware. What are you currently jailbroken with?

i used jailbreakme.com . will doing this keep me unlocked . i have started snowbreeze it asks for me to browse for a ipsw file dont no where to find tht

You have to download the 4.1 firmware. You can find it here: iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download

Since you are jailbroken with jailbreakme.com you will also need to download and use iReb to prepare the iphone for a custom firmware. Otherwise you may get a error in itunes when you try and restore to the custom firmware. And yes this will preserve your baseband so that after you finish the restore to the custom pre-jailbroken firmware all you have to do is go into cydia and install ultrasn0w and you will be unlocked again.

do i want hacktivation to activate my phone . seen a few threads saying u dont want it to activate

if you have a sim from the carrier it is locked to it is always best to activate that way instead of hacktivating.

You need to use ireb to prepare the phone for the custom firmware like I said above otherwise you will keep getting that error.
