Upgrading iPhone, keeping jailbroken and unlocked

Hey,

Basically I have a iPhone 3G which i bought jailbroken and open to all networks. The version is 3.1.2 (7D11)

I think its now time i updated to OS 4 and im wondering how i would go about keeping my phone jailbroken and more importantly open to all networks as i would be left without a phone without that.

Is it a matter of updating on itunes then re jailbraking the phone and unlocking or should i go about it another way.

Could do with some help please.

I learned from here for iphone 4 you have to save baseband fisrt, as I understand there is no unlock yet and used tiny umbrella to upgrade to 4.1then jail break with Limera1n or green poison. I do not know if this applies to 3g as you probably cannot preserve baseband.

Using TU to save baseband only apply to iphone 4

Restore to custom firmware created by Snowbreeze 2.0.2. You will need the help of ireb 4.1 to put you into DFU mode and then shift + Restore to the custom firmware of 4.1 created by Snowbreeze 2.0.2. Remember to use Expert mode to uncheck the activate my iphone and you will need the official to trigger it from Emergency mode into Home Screen and have it activated after installing Ultrasn0w to unlock.
