iphone 4 upgrade to 4.1 but not baseband ?

i have a iphone , its not unlocked or jailbroken but i want it to be.
i was reading on upgrading to 4.1 but it doesnt upgrade the base band
has anyone tried this ?
cause i will need it unlocked ?
directions say to use tiny , and run tss and then on itunes do a restore with 4.1 ispw
now if i do this will it keep my baseband at 1.59.00
or wll it up it to 2.10 or whatever ?
just wanted to see if others hae gotton it to work and their steps to doing it, thanks all

If you run the TSS server while restoring, the baseband will remain 1.59.00

ok so while tss is running i then open itunes right ? im using itunes 9 .2
then do i need to hve the phone in dfu or just on normal ? to start the restore ?

I would update to the newest iTunes first, then yes just a normal shift+ restore

download the 4.1 ipsw, open tinyumbrella, save your 4.1 shsh's, start the TSS server, open iTunes and click shift+restore (pc) or option+restore (mac) and point iTunes at your 4.1 ipsw, when the restore is almost complete it will give you a 1004 error, use tinyumbrella to kick the device out of recovery, you will be on 4.1 with the 1.59.00 baseband, use greenpois0n to jailbreak and install ultrasn0w from cydia to unlock if needed
