Restore 4.0.1 without shsh blobs

I have a jailbroken 3G running f/w 4.0.1, it developed a few probs, and I want to restore/re jailbreak is this possible given that I don't have shsh blobs saved?? Can find loads of guides to downgrade from 4.0.2 but i'm a bit stuck on this!!!

what I ahve read so far on this forum it seems if you do not ahave shsh saved you cannot downgrade.

Yea you have to have shsh's

You can update to 4.1 through custom firmware so you won't lose your unlock. Use pwnagetool if you're on a Mac, sn0wbreeze for Windows. 4.1 is much faster on a 3G anyway.
