You can jailbreak stock 4.1 firmware on an iPhone 3G with redsn0w 0.9.6. I'm assuming you don't rely on an unlock since you are already on 4.1 and the 5.14.02 baseband that comes with it cannot be unlocked.

Tip: Disabling multitasking, homescreen wallpaper, and battery percentage will speed up 4.1's performance on a 3G.

If you do require an unlock then try to run fuzzyband in cydia to downgrade the baseband (when you're JB). In older 3G phones it's possible. It will soon tell you if it can't do it.

If yours is eligible, then ultrasnow will unlock.
