help upgrading unlocked iPhone 3G

I have an iPhone 3G 8MB using 3.0 firmware. It is unlocked and jailbroken . 88840 first 5 of serial number and 04.26.08 modem firmware. What would be the best OS for this phone and the best way to go about upgrading it. thanks in advance

4.1 would probably be the best.

Use snowbreeze 2.0.2 to upgrade to 4.1 using custom firmware.

Download snowbreeze and iREB from iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones and download the stock 4.1 firmware.

Build your custom firmware, choose not to activate if you have an official SIM card to activate to avoid issues.

Shift+Restore in iTunes 10 to your custom firmware and use iREB to bypass the error you get from iTunes.

Install ultrasn0w to unlock. Voila

Restore to custom firmware created by Snowbreeze 2.0.2 of 4.1 and download Ireb 4.1 too. Run ireb 4.1 first before you proceed to do the Shift + Restore to custom firmware of 4.1. Make sure you uncheck the activate option under general while building cfw. You will need the official sim to activate , then once restored, everything will run smoothly. Goodluck.
