Neither limera1n nor Greenpois0n work 3GS 4.0.2

I'm kinda stuck here guys, my dad gives me his iPhone and tells me to make it work after I tell him not to upgrade the software!

At least my 4 still works!

I plug his in to my computer with limera1n, the program just says, "In DFU mode...waiting"
with Greenpois0n it keeps asking me to try again with DFU mude even though its in DFU mode!

Anyone have any ideas?

does he require carrier unlock? any shsh files available?

He does need the unlock, thats why I made sure to not go higher than 4.0.2

But no shsh files. I'm trying to see if I can get Tinyumbrella to work since I haven't upgraded to the newest version yet

I'm trying that right now, but I read recently that tiny umbrella can't preserve the baseband on 3GS

That is correct, tiny unbrella can only preserve baseband for iphone 4 , not 3gs

greenpois0n only works on 4.1 according to chronic dev team, it sounds like you might need to restore and without shsh's you will only be able to restore to 4.1 for which there is no unlock at this time, you can try a hard reset to get it out of dfu and then retry the jailbreak with limera1n

Yeah, I came home after leaving the phone on my computer and its now upgraded with the new baseband. Still can't jailbreak it though! WTH? Neither program is working still!

What is your itunes version ?

No I hit the upgrade button trying the TSS thing on Tiny Umbrella. I'm running iTunes 10.0.1

Since you have upgraded, restore again with Restore button and use Greenpoison to jailbreak. It might have something to do with the upgrade option.

I'm now wondering if its a defective phone. I looked at the bottom of it and a few of the pins on the 30 pin connector look burned

wow am I an idiot sometimes...turns out my dad was wrong about his phone and he had the 3G and not the 3GS. At least Pwnagetool 4.1 came to the rescue today!
