3GS - Only get apple screen

I got a new 3GS with Blackra1n in May, it had been upgraded to 3.1.2 so it was locked up. I put it in a draw and forgot about it. I hoped that in the future I could save it. I tried blackra1n again with no luck, I also tried limera1n I got the icon to appear on the screen once, but then nothing. So all I get is the apple or battery in the red logo (will not ever seem to charge), or just a black screen. Is it toast? It's brand new I hate to just toss it.

No, don't throw it away. What firmware do you have it on now.

The upgrade that killed it may was 3.1.2. I think. Sorry for my ignorance. I can't get in it to tell for sure.

No problem, you can download Redsn0w 0.9.4 and if you have 3.1.2 on your computer, do the jailbreak now from emergency screen.

Is your iphone still frozen at apple logo ? or is it in Emergency screen.

Alright, since you have jailbroken at 3.1.2 before, I think you might have 3.1.3 shsh blogs.

Here we go : I want you to put your iphone into recovery mode.
Turn it off, while holding the Home Button, plug your cable in until Itunes cable logo appears.

You must have atleast Itunes 8.2
Now you are in recovery mode, do this
Run Notepad as Admin , open up hosts file and add this line :
C windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com Mark the rest with this # infont to temporary to ignore.
save it and reboots your pc
Now do the Shift + Restore 3.1.3 ipsw.

I'm embarrassed to say that I do not understand any of that instruction. I think iPhones require a level of programing that I do not have. redsn0w will not open any of .ipsw files I download. It might have to do with the fact that is was bought out of the country. I was offered $50 for it "as is" should I just take it and quit while I'm behind?
