Touch 2g (MC) 4.2 - can it be jailbroken untethered?
I've tried a bunch of systems and I still can't get an untethered jailbreak for my iPod Touch 2g (MC model) with 4.1.
If anyone has had success getting an untethered jailbreak for this device, I (and a bunch of others) would be very grateful if you would share the info. TIA

There is still no untethered jailbreak at 4.1 for itouch 2g MC model yet.
But you can downgrade back to 4.0.1 with shsh blogs and use jailbreakme to jailbreak to get untethered jailbreak.Last edited by iYeow; 10-15-2010 at 02:50 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Thanks for the reply. I bought the itouch used, totally ignorant about everything relating to it. Stupidly I said yes when iTunes told me 4.1 was going to be good for me, and was not aware of shsh blogs - so nothing was saved.
Although I like the folders capability in 4, I'd be happy to go back to 3.x to be able to jailbreak it.
Is there any way for me to do that, although I saved nothing when I went to 4.1?

There is nothing you can do at the moment, since you are already at 4.1, wait for the jailbreak to be made compatible with ipod 2g.

I've got my fingers crossed (very scientific) that there will be a jailbreak for the iTouch 2g MC with 4.1 in the near future.
I'm also hoping that when it happens, some kind soul will post information about it here. TIA

Warning!
I just tried to jailbreak my iTouch 2G MC 4.1 with GreenPoison RC4, as suggested in the previous reply.
The blogs all seem to report that this came out today and should work. It didn't.
And my iTouch is now a brick!
A little light for a boat anchor, but I guess I can use it for coaster when I run out of bad DVDs.

That's great news!
Could you please tell me how to do that - or point me to a link that will give this 75 year old geezer the steps to get his iTouch back? You'll make an old man very happy.

It won't start. I've pressed the top button but nothing happens, no white apple.

I did essential what the video said to do, but followed the on screen directions. It told me the jailbreak failed, to start again and retry. I did. Nothing.
Now at just seems dead.

I get this:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."

Now that it has been restored, I'm ready, power off, connect with USB, and try again to jailbreak it.
...a little while later...
No luck. It comes up with "reset to try again". So I tried again. And then again. No success and a totally black screen, no matter what.
I'm restoring again, glad it didn't turn into a brick, but totally dismayed at not being able to jailbreak this device. Maybe Greenpoison RC4 isn't tuned to the MC model yet.
Again, thanks to all for trying to help. Still hoping to get this done.
If anyone has had a successful jailbreak with a 2g MC with 4.1, please let me know.Last edited by jo-ro; 10-20-2010 at 06:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
