Still no limera1n icon after several attempts...

I'm trying to JB my iPod touch 8G model MC086LL with newly upgraded 4.1 OS. I've tried the following:

rebooting several times
running limeRa1n as administrator
updating iTunes
updating my Windows Vista to the latest
running limeRa1n on different (Windows 7) computer
running limeRa1n with or without iTunes running
restoring the iPod and choosing "set up as new phone"


No matter what I try, limeRa1n acts like everything is fine - it gives the normal messages, and says "finished successfully" or whatever. But when I look for the limeRa1n icon on my springboard I do not see the limeRa1n icon.


Any advice?

I think its 2nd gen same as mine which doesnt work.

Pretty sure it's 2nd gen when it's 8gb MC. Also it's new bootrom. I think redsn0w is supposed to jailbreak it but I've seen a lot of people have problems doing it. The best option might be to wait until greenpois0n is updated to support that device.

I believe that for the purposes of jailbreaking, it is 3G - at least I know I read that on one of the JB forums, which doesn't necessarily make it true. The 8G MC is sort of in between 2G and 3G - my understanding is that it has the slower 2G processor but the newer bootrom (and other ... umm ... stuff).

So I thought limeRa1n was supposed to work, but I haven't specifically found someone else who has successfully (or unsuccessfully) done it.

Well I ran the f0recast exe, and it says

Model: MC086
Jailbreakable: Yes (Always)
Tethered: Depends on Jailbreak
iPod Touch 2G [MC] - Firmware 4.1


I'm not sure that helps - as I said, I believe the 8G MC is sort of a cross between 2G and 3G, and that for the purposes of jailbreaking it's supposed to be 3G. But I still don't know whether or not it can be JB'en with limeRa1n.

Ok, you have an Ipod touch 2g , MC model. The highest firmware you can jaibreak is 4.0.1.
Plug in your ipod touch
Download Tiny Umbrella latest version.
Run TU
Click Adv Tab
Device/Version : Select ipod 2g, 4.0.1 shsh blogs
Request : Cydia
Click Save shsh
Wait for Answer.. it should be a Yes, if it says you are too late, then you can't.
Now put your ipod into DFU mode
Click Start Tss Server
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1 ipsw (Ipod touch 2g firmware)
You should be able to restore.
Once restored
Jailbreakme 2.0 from Safari on your Iphone.

It's a 2G. It's identical to an old 2G in every way except for its updated bootrom.

Limera1n doesn't support it. Again, supposedly redsn0w works, only tethered.
