I can't find an answer to these so I thought I asked here.
1. Do I need to be on the latest firmware from Apple to jailbreak the iPhone? ie, I need to upgrade my iPhone to 4.1 before I use the jailbreak software that is currently available from hackers.
2. What's the difference between limera1n, sn0wbreeze, and tinyumbrella? Don't they all perform the same function, jailbreak the iPhone?
limera1n" is jailbreaking program...You can JB 4.1 firmware with it..
sn0wbreeze" is unlocking program that let you to chose which phone carrier you want to use
tinyumbrella" is the program that saves your firmware with all apps on it so you could easily downgrade your Iphone..
And yes.. you better be on 4.1 to JB with 'limera1n'
Yes limera1n is a jailbreaking tool. It allows you to jailbreak the phone in the state its already in, without loosing anything.
Sn0wbreeze is a tool that allows you to create custom IPSW files (the actual iphone os software).
Tinyumbrella is a tool that allows you to downgrade your iphone to an earlier os depending on whether you have what are calle shsh blobs saved on either the cydia server, or locally on your computer.
I realise i may have just created more questions for you in this reply, so if u would like them answered, and or some advice, please pm me or ask on this thread
First off... Are u on a mac or pc??
Tinyumbrella does not jailbreak at all.
Are you in need of unlocking your iphone in order to use a different service provider??
If you are on a pc and dont need to unlock, i would recommend doing a full backup through itunes, and then upgrade to 4.1. Again through itunes. Once upgraded, do a restore from the backup u creates jst now. Then download limera1n from limera1n.com and follow the onscreen instructions in the program. This will successfully jailbreak your phone. Then once the phonenboots back up, you should have a new app called limera1n. Open that, install cydia, and your done! Fully jailbroken!!!
Side question, is there any way to restore an iPhone to factory settings WITHOUT going through an update?
Long story short, I've bought a used iPhone and I want to restore it to factory settings. But restoring it would also mean updating it to the latest firmware and baseband.
