Whats an exploit?

I hear all this talk about Geogots exploit and limerains exploit, WTF is an exploit? I understand how it jailbreaks but what is it exactly?

A vulnerability in the Apple code that is used to allow arbitrary code execution.

it ultimately allows the end user to run unsigned code (i.e. stuff apple doesn't want you to do)

it allows for all kinds of awesome tweaks, themes, and apps that will turn your phone into the ultimate device.

also, just to clear you up a bit, geohot is a developer who found an exploit and made a program called limera1n which uses the exploit to allow the user to jailbreak (run unsigned code on) their phone.
