Question about jailbreaking to os4 with iphone 3G

I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G on 3.1.2 and modern firmware(baseband?) 05.11.07, it is currently on a contract with virgin australia

is it to my understanding that I can use this guide to update to 4.0

As far as I can tell those guides simply tell you how to unlock your phone after you've upgraded to 4.0 and jailbreak. If you're on 3G, trust me, you don't want to upgrade to 4.0. It slows the phone way down. If you want to upgrade, upgrade to 4.1.

I know a couple ways to do this, but they're kinda buggy. You'll have to create and restore to a custom 4.1 iOS using Sn0wbreeze.

For my unlock and activation I used valj's guide on this thread:

Problems I ran into after doing this though is that I can't open Youtube (though mxtube works fine), and I'm finding I'm having issues backing up my phone on at least one computer.

Though I haven't tried his method yet and am not certain how it differs greatly from what I've already done using valj's method.
