iPod Touch 2g MB model 4.1 upgrade

I have an iPod Touch 2g MB model...it's on 4.0 firmware jailbroken...If I want to upgrade to 4.1....can I just upgrade via iTunes or do i have to totally restore my ipod? (plan on jailbreaking it with redsn0w after)

I think your suppose to restore, I always do just to fix any hiccups causes by switching firmware
