[noob] Jailbreak & unlock 3GS on stock 4.0.2

Thank you for your reply. I do have the shsh blobs, saved through tiny umbrella, but I don't really know what to do with them in the rest of the process. When I looked at greenp0ison it only said for 4.1. I am new to this so I apologize in advance

No problem, I personally have not used Limera1n nor GreenPoison, I just read up and explain to you guys. It may not work, but if anything happens , just restore back to 4.0.2.

I'm not even sure how to restore back to 4.0.2, lol. I gather that I should not upgrade to 4.1, as that would upgrade the firmware and I would not be able to recover from there. Does iTunes play any role in the limera1n process? It kept giving me notifications and I just kept closing them. Thanks again!

To restore to 4.0.2 again. You can use Tiny umbrella to do that but you must save your 4.0.2 shsh blogs locally.
Run Tiny Umbrella
Plug your iphone in , bootable state ( Home Screen)
Click Adv tab
Device /Version : Select 3gs 4.0.2 shsh blogs
Request : Cydia
Click Save Shsh
Wait for answer.. If it says Yes, then click Display shsh to comfirm.
Now put iphone into recoery mode
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.2 ispw.

If you restore to 4.1 which will update your baseband and cannot be downgraded.
TU only helps you to restore to firmware which is currently not signed by Apple with the help of stored shsh blogs, only if you have it with Cydia.

Thank you very much. I followed those steps and got them saved. When I clicked on "display shsh" it showed that I had them saved for 4.1. I thought perhaps that was why limera1n wasn't working, so I tried it again after saving the 4.0.2 shsh. Same result. No icons. Am I supposed to have a sim card in there when doing this?

I unlocked my 3gs running 4.0.2, the night Limera1n came out. It was very easy to do. The next night I did my ipod touch running 4.1. Had not a problem with either.

What happened after you ran limera1n? When I run it I see the green limedrop symbol and then my phone turns off. I have tried just turning it back on with the power button and I don't see any new icon. I have also re-booted by holding down home and power and still no new icon. Not sure what I'm missing. What is your firmware? Mine is 05.13.04.

Ok so I think I pretty much screwed myself. I found some instructions to unlock and jailbreak my 3GS running 4.0.2 and it didn't work. I ended up upgrading to 4.1 and firmware 05.14.02. Am I screwed until 4.2 comes out?

Yeah, as far as unlock is concerned , you are screwed for now but you can now jailbreak with GP or Limera1n at 4.1

Oh...that's sucks. Yeah you just lost your unlock. Might be a while before a new unlock.

Has anyone heard anything about being able to jailbreak and unlock the 3GS on 4.1 and 5.14.02 firmware? As you can see from my previous post, I am a dumbass. I know the new pwnage tool came out for mac, and i've been trying to find out if that might solve my problem when it comes out for windows? Should I just sell this phone on Craigslist? I need to be able to use it on T-Mobile. Thank you for your time!

Pwnagetool will always be a Mac only tool.

There is currently no unlock for the phone you described.

You can jailbreak it tho with limera1n or greenpois0n. And no, it doesn't matter which one. They both do the same thing.
