3gs ios 4.02 jailbreak with redsn0w?

My friend has a 3gs ios 4.0.2 that he wants me to jailbreak, but I have only jailbroken 3g using redsnow and was curious if I can use redsnow for his 3gs. The phone has never been jailbroken before. If not redsnow is there another program that works better for 3gs maybe snowbreeze? Or should I preserve the 5.13.04 baseband then update to 4.1 and then jailbreak? Not sure of the bootloader. Help and info very appreciated.

Leave the phone on 4.0.2 and use limera1n to jailbreak it.

Or if you don't need to worry about unlocking then upgrade to 4.1 and use limera1n to jailbreak.
