Not according to Geohot.
Hopefully he will release an updated version which supports iphone 3g and ipod touch 2G.limera1n, 6 months in the making
iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G
4.0-4.1 and beyond+++
limera1n is unpatchable
untethered thanks to jailbreakme star comex
released today to get chronicdev to do the right thing
brought to you by geohot
Mac and Linux coming soon
follow the instructions in the box, sadly limera1n isn't one click
that's the price of unpatchability
as usual, donations appreciated but not required
still in beta, pardon my ragged edges
AppleTV is technically supported, but theres no apps yet
zero pictures of my face
Although in the meantime just use sn0wbreeze/pwnage/redsn0w.
Tried limera1n with my iphone 3G and it entered recovery then after entering DFU mode nothing seemed to happen.
Would like to hear if anyone else has had similar experiences on iphone 3G/ipod 2G though.

On my 2G:
It successfully jailbroke me on 4.0 but to it's detriment, I was already jailbroken from Jailbreakme. :/ I updated to 4.1 and the effects of the jailbreak were still visible. I just restored as I'm trying to clear a time-glitch. In the process. I'm not too comfortable playing around with DFU and 3rd party hacking tools designed and clearly stated "not to work with 2G" but hey, I'll take one for the team and tell you guys how it goes.

Use redsn0w for iPod 2g's and iPhone 3G's.

Redsn0w seems to be more stable, but only for those who won't need the unlock. Sn0wbreeze is your only means of preserving the baseband if you haven't already gone up to stock 4.1.
