Default Novice Question as confused if already jailbroken

Novice question: If those who had already jailbroken their iphones 4 with jailbreakme.Com. Will it be necessary to upgrade to 4.1 and use greenpois0n or limera1 to jail break again when they come out. Which jailbreak to be best used?

If I understand your question correctly, you don't HAVE to upgrade if you don't want to. If your phone is already jailbroken you can leave it on the iOS it's currenty on. However 4.1 does have a couple of nice features which a lot of people probably want to upgrade for.

If you need an unlock however, don't upgrade yet.

Bellyfrog thanks for quick reply. If I jailbreak on 4.1 does this mean it will remain a permanent jailbreak. AS I undesrtand it my current 4.0.1 is not premanent.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be permanent on 4.0.1

The only time a jailbreak gets removed is if you upgrade/restore the phone.

All jailbreaks are permanent unless you do something to remove them as far as I know. But as I said, if you need an unlock for the phone do not upgrade

Thanks Bellyfrog. Perhaps I do not quite understand what I am reading e.g. when using the shatter jaibreak it will jailbreak your iphone permanent and apple wont be able to patch to stop future upgrade. For now I fully understand your explanation. I will have to keeep pace.

What they are talking about with the SHAtter exploit is that because SHAtter is a hardware exploit, all devices that are currently out there can be jailbroken with it because to fix it Apple has to change the hardware on the iPhone.

So basically any phone that already exists can be jailbroken forever with SHAtter no matter what iOS it's on (when iOS 5 comes out for example, you will be able to jailbreak it with a SHAtter jailbreak, on a phone that already exists).

However when Apple sees the exploit, they will start manufacturing new phones which don't have the exploit. Those phones won't be jailbreakable using SHAtter.

But as far as jailbreaks go, as long as you don't upgrade/restore, it'll be there forever.

EDIT - All 4th Gen devices that is, since SHAtter is an A4 chip hardware exploit (iPod Touch 4G, iPhone 4, iPad)
