Upgrading Ipod Touch 3G 3.1.3 to 4.0.1?

Hey guys! I have an iPod touch 3G 32gb. It is an MC model and is jail broken with spirit on 3.1.3. I'd like to update to 4.0.1, the latest jailbreakable update on the iPod touch, but I wanted to know if and how I can do that? Is it possible? If so, what are the steps I need to take? Also, will doing this erase my all my installed packages on my iPod? What about apps? Will I lose progress in games and apps be deleted? Thanks for the help guys.

Every restore will wipe clean all apps from Itunes, however you can always sync it back.
You can point your hosts file towards Cydia first if you have 4.0.1 shsh blogs saved.
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1
Jailbreakme 2.0 to do the jailbreak.

But thing is, I've never been past 3.1.3, so I don't have any shsh for that.

Trust me you do have it if you have said Yes Make my life easier when you first open up the front page of Cydia.

I mean, I dot have the shsh for 4.0.1 because I've never upgraded past 3.1.3.

So you are back, you don't have to be on that firmware to save your shsh , Cydia will save all future shsh blogs for you.
