So my old man has a 3g and i installed and jb'ed 4.01. Appears the 3g just wont accept ios4 cus its super slow. So what are ny chances of downgrading to 3.1.3?
Download tinybrella and check out if you have SHSH saved for 3.1.x
4.1 is supposed to be fixed for speed on 3G and you JB it for 3G.
SCRATCH MESSAGE ABOVE!
You won't need SHSH for restoring to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. Put the phone in DFU mode and do a shift restore to 3.1.2 you'll get an error message - use Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery.
Once there, jailbreak with blackrain or redsnow (probably blackrain is quickest).
Now you can use custom firmware (create it with snowbreeze 2.0.2) to go to 4.1 and then simply unlock with ultrasnow.

OK, I've clearly confused you. Let me start again.
For downgrades to 3.x firmwares you don't need SHSH files to downgrade. So you could just downgrade and get him back to where he was before, no issues.
Apple addressed the slow performance of iOS4 on 3G handsets with firmware 4.1, so it's going to be comparable to what it was like on 3.1.3
You can get to 4.1 a couple of ways, but snowbreeze 2.0.2 is going to be fine.
Ok thanks. So 3.x.x firmwares are no problem. Just shift+restore and shouldnt be a problem. But to get him to 4.1 i must create a custom firmware with snowbreeze. This sounds really hard. Also will 4.1 be faster? Is it optimized for the 3g?
Just created a custom 4.1 firmware but itunes wont restore. It gets stucks on preparing iphone for restore. Then error. Also error when trying to restore to 3.1.3
