Iphone 4 on 4.0 restore to same firmware or just 4.0.1 is it possible?

Iphone 4 downgrade/upgrade. Currently on 4.0 and i basically wanna erase everything and start fresh without having to upgrade and not be able to unlock. is there anyway to restore to the same firmware or just to 4.0.1? i just wanna restore and be able to jailbreak.me.. Please let me know.. I've tried and came up with Itunes errors.. did the whole "Host" file modifications and still getting errors.. Any links or anything? Please help thanks a lot.

Before you restore, open up Cydia, the front page, tell me in GREEN LETTERS about shsh, what do you see

SHSH: iOS 4.1

Then you cannot downgrade, your lowest restore is 4.1 firmware. Wait for New Jailbreak.

That sucks.. Feels like that thing is never coming out..
