Totally Confused

I would like to jailbreak my 3G iTouch which is currently on 3.0. What program do I use? Snowbreeze, Redsnow, Jailbreakme.com, etc. and what firmware do I need to upgrade to?

A step by step would really be great. I have been reading the forums for a long time but the more I read the more confused I am getting so hopefully someone can just specifically answer me about this particular situation.

Jailbreakme.com, which is the easiest, should work for you if you have 3.1.2 or higher.

I think Spirit should work also if you have 3.1.3.

yeow202 - thank you for the instructions - it was exactly what I was looking for. The only thing is that this is iTouch 3G so it has no sim card - does that change anything???

I made a mistake, I thought you had a 3G iphone, so I deleted the instructions, so are you jailbroken yet ?

If you have not jailbroken yet, i have some bad news for you. Be ready.

You have missed all the recent jailbreaks. You can only restore to 4.1 and wait for new jailbreak.
The reason being, you cannot restore to any other firmware besides 4.1 because you don't have any shsh blogs.
One thing you can do now is to download tiny umbrella and save your 4.1 shsh blogs to Cydia.
When the new jailbreak for 4.1 is released, apple will definitely release 4.2 and stopped 4.1 but if you have 4.1 shsh saved, you can restore to 4.1 to take advantage of the 4.1 jailbreak. Does this make sense to you.?

No it's never been jailbroken and it's a 3G iTouch on 3.0. Can it be jailbroken? And which program?

This is how you save your 4.1 shsh blogs
Run tiny umbrellla with your ipod touch plug in
Click Adv Tab
Devcie/Version : Select itouch 3g 4.1 shsh
Request : Cydia
Click Save shsh
Wait for answer
Now you have saved your 4.1 shsh for future restore.
This is all you can do now and wait.

Can I not jailbreak it if it is still on firmware 3.0 - it's not updated to 4.1?

NO, there is no jailbreak for itouch 3g at 3.0.

Because you can only save what Apple is currently signing. Even if it's newer than what you are running it will still save it.

If you don't save it, when the 4.1 jailbreak is out and apple is signing 4.2, you can only restore to 4.2, you will have to wait another year for a new jailbreak after the 4.1 jailbreak...
