iPhone 3GS new bootrom 3.1.3 Spirit JB
I want to upgrade to one of the 4.0 or beyond firmwares, preferably 4.1
Sn0wbreeze 2.0 allows for JB of 3GS on 4.1 but it says I must have a 3GS with 3.1.2 JB.... what about 3GS with 3.1.3 Spirit JB??
What are my options? (please don't say wait for greenp0ison lol
)

New bootrom cannot use Snowbreeze.
If you have jailbroken awhile ago, you should have 4.0.1 shsh blogs with Cydia.
Point your hosts file towards Cydia by adding this line :
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Save it and reboots.
Now Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1 ipsw which you have to download too.
Once restored, you can use jailbreakme 2.0 from Safari on your iphone.

Then you have it, you have to point hosts file towards Cydia when you do the Shift + Restore thing.

don't worry it's really easy
1) Right-click on notepad on your PC and click open as administrator. Then in notepad
File > Open > Change bottom right hand corner to "All files" > C: > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc > hosts
2) Once you have opened the 'hosts' file copy and paste this
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
at the very bottom below all the # signs
Save the file (just press CTRL+S)
3) Reboot your computer
4) Download the iOS 4.0.1 for 3GS from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
5) Open iTunes, connect your phone, backup if you want to keep all your stuff
6) Hold SHIFT and press Restore then navigate to the 4.0.1 firmware and wait about 15 minutes for the phone to be restored
7) Turn on your Wi-Fi, open Safari on your phone, and go to jailbreakme.com and follow the steps to jailbreak
8) Wait for the jailbreak to complete and you should see Cydia on the homescreen and then you're good to go
Good luckLast edited by Squishy Crayons; 10-05-2010 at 09:02 PM.

ok i'll try. but first let me double check to see if your phone and my phone is the same before u did this upgrade. below ive listed my features:
3GS jailbroken with spirit.
fw: 3.1.3(7E18).

this whole proceedure upgrades fw to 4.0.1, am i correct?
also, it can be jail broken without any known issues and synced wit itunes after its all done?

There are no issues with going to 4.0.1 for most people. We've heard of people having problems but it's generally of their own creation.
Jailbreakme did have a couple of issues at the start, but they were quickly ironed out.
Yeow likes to edit his host file, but I find it easier to use tiny umbrella which points the restore automatically.
In tiny umbrella, download your SHSH locally, then start the TSS server. Put your phone in DFU mode and start itunes, shift restore to 4.0.1 firmware.Last edited by eyeRobot; 10-06-2010 at 02:59 AM.
