    Default 3gs upgrade help
i have a 3gs on fw 3.1.3; baseband 5.12.01; model: MB715LL; new boothrom; jb with spirit.

i want to upgrade to 4.0.1 and jb it. i have a bunch of questions:

    1. can i make a custom ispw to upgrade?
    a. if so, what program and how do i do it?
    b. must i back up on itunes first?
    c. will the custom ispw be recocnized on itunes?
    d. what if i run into errors?
    e. what jb should i use after upgrading?
    f. are my pics, phonebok, settings, etc gonna be restored to the phone?

if anybody can help, id appreciate it if all my questions be answered. i want to be sure that everything is covered and goes smoothly. i dont want to get stuck and be forced to upgrade to 4.1 in itunes. i dont want to wait until theres a promising jb. so PLEASE help me. any help and any suggestions would be wonderful!

so far i can only find out how to do it if the jb was different, or they have the old boothrom, or they have a 3g. i have a 3gs

    mahalo and aloha!!

You cannot use custom firmware on a new bootrom. Before you do the restore, Sync your iphone with Itunes first, and when you have finished restoring to 4.0.1, you must setup as a new iphone to avoid problems. You can always sync back your contacts, photos and even notes, but not sms messages.
You know that that you will require 4.0.1 shsh blogs in order to restore to 4.0.1 firmware, right?
