No service/signal after jailbreaking iphone 4.1 3g

Hi.

I followed this guide to jailbreak my unlocked iphone 3g.

Now I have no service.

I installed it initially with my sim card in...but after reading on here that that might be the issue, i tried installing w no sim card...yet still no service.

Any ideas?

The phone is factory unlocked...i shouldn't need that

I know your problem, since you have a factory unlocked, the custom firmware you used to restore hactivates, so in order to get service, it must not be hactivated because you have the factory unlock. If you don't want to restore to another custom firmware which does not hactivate.
You can install Ultrasn0w to get service OR
You can restore to stock 4.1 ipsw and then jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 for Mac.

If I just restore back to a normal apple 4.1 using itunes, will it fix my issue.

I don't need a jailbroken phone that badly

Yes, it will fix this problem, you will have signal.

I just installed ultrasn0w, and now instead of having no bars it just says "searching" and I still have no signal

Check your modem firmware, if you have 05.14.xx, then Ultrasn0w will not work. Do the way you mentioned, restore to stock 4.1 and you should be fine.
