Help!!! Update from 3.1.3 to 4.0 (iPod Touch 2G MB) on iTunes 10, ERROR 3194!

Hey guys, I'm trying to jailbreak my friend's ipod touch 2g, MB model 16 gb, but he wants it from 3.1.3 to 4.0, so I can't shift+restore with 4.0 because my iTunes 10 (Windows) says error 3194! How can I do this without editing my hosts files (I have Windows 7)?? OR is that the only way!

You have to edit your hosts file towards Cydia for shsh verification.

Run Notepad as admin and then open up the hosts file and add this line :
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
