    Default Unlock replacement 3Gs?

I just received a replacement 3Gs from Apple. I am not even sure what is running on it now. Is there a way to unlock/jailbreak a brand new phone?

You have to activate with an official sim card to find out. What happened to your previous iphone, just curious..

First of all, make sure you don't restore since that'll prevent you from unlocking even if you do jailbreak.

As yeow said, activate it and find out which firmware version it's on.

I can activate it using a buddies SIM right? It won't de-activate their phone or anything.

No, if you use ur friend's sim just to trigger your iphone into home screen, it is not going to deactivate his iphone.
So have you found out what firmware is on ?

4.0.2 is good, you won't be on an unlockable baseband. Just wait a few days for Sh4tter jailbreak to be released and you will be golden. Iv been waiting since August with 2 iPhones 4's and a 3GS

You might be lucky : Usually Replacement are refurbished and used previously. It could be someone was jailbreaking it and screwed up, then send it for an exchange.

Point your hosts file towards Cydia Server and Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1 ipsw.

So you don't have the magical shsh blogs. Have you tried using Tiny Umbrella and grab it from Cydia?
