Default Upgrading to latest firmware from 3.1.3

    Hi there,

I have a jailbroken/unlocked New Bootrom iphone with version 3.1.3 (7E18) firmware & I have my SHSH 3.1.3 saved (I think). I'm looking to upgrade to the latest apple firmware, and would like to know if it's possible, and how? I have been trying to work it out myself, but it gets a little overwhelming, for someone like myself.

P.s. I also jailbroke it with Spirit.

Thanks to anyone who has the patience in answering my question.

Well if you go into cydia and look at the top it will say what shsh blobs you have on file. If you have 4.0.1 shsh blobs you can use tinyumbrella to upgrade to 4.0.1 and then use jailbreakme.com to jb it, then ultrasn0w to unlock.

But you will need a official carrier sim or a universal phone book sim from ebay, so you can activate it before doing all that.

    Thanks for your reply!

At the top it says SHSH: 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1

I've got an official Australian 3 Mobile carrier sim. They sent it to me when I signed up with them. Is that what your asking?

    P.s. I shouldn't upgrade past V. 3GS 4.0.1 (8A306) with TinyUmbrella?

    Thanks again.

What ever carrier the phone came from, if that was the carrier then yes that sim will work.

Correct do not go past 4.0.1 , 4.1.0 has a baseband update.

    OK. Great!

Do I need to downgrade, if possible? If so, what do I downgrade to if im already on 3.1.3?

Also, do I need to download any modified apple 4.0.1 FW before pressing the Start TSS Server? Or is that done automatically?

Thanks again, for the help mate. Appreciate it.

You download the 4.0.1 firmware from here :
iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From
PC: Run Notepad as Admin and open up to your hosts file :
    Cwindows\system32\Drivers\etc\hosts
and add this line to the very bottom
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Save it and reboots your pc
Now Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1 ipsw which you have downloaded.
    Let it restore.

In the advanced option of tinyumbrella I would pick "Request version: iPhones 3GS 4.0.1 (8A306) then press start TSS which then takes me to iTunes. When i press Restore, it tells me if I am sure, as all data on phone will be erased. Does it give me me the option to choose the restore file I downloaded?

Your probably wondering how the hell I jailbroke my phone the first time, right?

EDIT: I have actually added this "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" from a previous jailbreak, or something. So that's good to go.

No, do not just hit restore, it will take you to the latest 4.1
You have to press Shift key on your keyboard + Restore in Itunes,
a box will pop up for you to browse.

There are two ways of restoring , one is to use tss server from tiny umbrella. In order to use that you have to stored your 4.0.1 shsh blogs in tiny umbrella first before starting tss server.
The other method is to point your host file towards Cydia.
I have given you the ip address.
    After editing your hosts file.
Then you do the Shift key + Restore and browse to 4.0.1 ipsw.

So, doing this step in tinyumbrella is fine right?

"In the advanced option of tinyumbrella I would pick "Request version: iPhones 3GS 4.0.1 (8A306) then press start TSS which then takes me to iTunes."

    Thanks!

    Well...whatever it is I'm doing, it's happening.

I'll let you guys know how it went.

    Thanks for the help!

    EDIT: Cheers Yeow.

I have gone through with the Shift-Restore as I already had this 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com pasted in my hosts file.

Maybe I haven't done it completely right, it has updated, but I don't have Cydia anymore. That's not good, right?

Not neccessary, every restore will wipe out everything and you have to rejailbreak again.
Go to setting, General and about : what version do you see there.

    I've got 4.0.1. Should I use jailbreakme.com now?
