3gs 3.1.2 Assistance Required

Dear all,

First, thanks in advance for taking at least the time to read this, all your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am completelly new to this.

My Iphone is a 3GS that I bought with all the work done (JB and Unlocked).

I do not have an idea on how it was done.

I'd love to upgrade from 3.1.2 to 4.2 or another version you recommend. Most of the updated apps do not work (probably because they are made to work with 4.x).

When i open Cydia, the top of it says: SHSS: 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2

If I use f0recast I get:
Baseband 05.11.07
Bootloader 6.4
Model MC135
Jailbreakable YES
Unlockable YES - (use ultrasn0w)

In my country Costa Rica, my Iphone will not work if it is not unlocked.

4.2 isn't out yet.

If you have SHSHs for 4.0.1 you should go to 4.0.1.

You'll need an official carrier's SIM to activate the phone and jb. If you don't have one, you'll end up locking yourself out of the phone. So either stay where you are, or get an official
carrier's SIM first before attempting a restore to 4.0.1.

The problem is I do not have it, and I do not think it is easy to find it in Costa Rica.

You could buy one online or get a universal activation SIM online too. Otherwise if you don't wanna lose your jb and unlock, sit tight where you are for now.

Sure. I'm assuming you still don't have the official carrier's SIM so you'll wanna hacktivate. Do you have a Mac? Or are you using Windows? Let me know which machine you're using so I can write a set of instructions for you. PM me and I'll walk you through it.
