Default Updating to 4.1 from external download

Hey guys, I humbly ask for assistance in updating my iphone4 to 4.1 from 4.0.2.

I have tried to download the update via itunes and it keeps timing out when its like almost finished. So i went ahead and downloaded the actual file from redmondpie to update my phone, however, i dont know what to do. its not doing anything when i open it. can someone tell me where to put the file/how to install the file. Thanks a mil.

Yes, first download the ipsw then hold shift and press restore in iTunes. It will ask you for the location of the file, find it and click open
