Buying a new iPhone 4 - Jailbreak?

I'm planning on buying an iPhone 4 soon but heard they are all shipping with iOS 4.1 now. Basically, that means I won't be able to jailbreak at all correct?

Wait for a jb before buying just to be sure. Unless you don't mind using a stock iPhone (I sure don't, I just miss the jb haha). I got mine on 4.0.2 so it's almost the same thing. Gotta wait. But if you rely on an unlock it could be a problem. You'd wanna find a phone not on 4.1 since that's the fw that upgrades the baseband to the current unlockable state.

Well right now I have a Captivate but the OTA update bricked my phone (download cut off in the middle and the phone tried to update a half complete FW). I love the phone but the new Captivate I got has a completely broken GPS. And my 30day window is up this Tuesday.

Unlock doesn't bother me. It's just the Jailbreak. Coming from an Android, if I don't have JB on the iPhone4, it's almost useless to me.

And I hear all new iPhone4 shipping from AT&T are probably coming with 4.1 now (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So unless I want an unlock (in which case I don't care about that), 4.0.2 or 4.1, it's the same different with regard to JB?

No offense, but if you can't see the good in an iPhone 4 without a JB, you shouldn't get one. It's a great phone w/o a jailbreak, just an even better phone with. I wouldn't even consider an android, but maybe you should stick to that since you only want an iPhone for jailbreaking. Last note: 4.0.2 and 4.1 are currently not able to JB.

Understandable. But JB atleast gives me some customization options with I am used to coming from Android. Sadly, I don't want to go though phone after phone finding a working GPS on the Captivate.

I agree that it is a great phone, but I much prefer the customization options from JBing - that is a big issue for me (the lack of customization on a stock phone).

Thanks... do you know which firmware they are working on 4.0.2 or 4.1.0? Because my iphone 4 came with fw 4.0.2 and if they are working on 4.1.0 then I might as well upgrade to that firmware....

It will work on iOS 4 and up. Supposedly for all devices as well.

Edit: I enjoy theming as well. I can wait for the JB no problem. If you can wait as long as another month (not necessarily that long but we never know how long a JB can take) then by all means go for buying the iP4. Cuz there's just no way there isn't going to be a new JB, it's just a matter of waiting.

Oh yeah, waiting isn't an issue. It's just if there won't be one (honestly, the chances of that are really low), that's when I feel an iPhone would not be a good choice for myself.

I actually really like my Captivate, but the GPS just doesn't want to work... And this is my 3rd one since my original one got bricked (and that one worked perfectly

).

I've never seen the Captivate before. Or heard of it, rather. But I do know once you go iPhone, you never go back :P lol something about the iOS that makes it awesome. That and the massive app store. There definitely will be a jb (there always is) so I wouldn't be concerned. I think you'll really like the iPhone with jb. The theming is indeed fantastic

By the way, is the Greenpoison JB the 'hardware' JB that is supposed to stay regardless of the firmware the phone is using, or was that Shatter?
