There are several threads warning people. Do not trust those items. Check the Chronic Dev, Dev team blog, or here at mmi for when the jailbreak drops.

This same news is repeated at RedMondPie, which is a good site IMO. They say it was mentioned a few hours ago by the administrator of the Iphone wiki who they identify as an authentic and reliable source.

Please have a look at Chronic's blog and look at the twitter accounts to follow for news. Also follow the ones on the Dev Team also to get the most up-to-date info.
Update 3: Just to help cut down on speculation, here is a list of some of our Twitters, any info read on them about the jailbreak will be legitimate:

also greenpois0n is not the jailbreak, it's a set of tools that help find exploits and develop the jailbreak, it has also been available for quite some time

I sure hope they aren't waiting for 4.2. Not having a jailbreak for my iPhone 4 has made me feel that if sometime in the future, if iPhones are ever un-jailbreakable, I probably wouldn't buy one. Having all the power of a jb taken away, even for this short delay for the current jb, is just something I wouldn't like lol.

If you have to ask yourself if it's a fake then of course it is! Geez.
quickpwn.com isn't an official Dev site so don't watch that site either!

4.2 is coming in november I cant really see the point in launching the JB if people are saying next week to use for what 5 weeks untill the 4.2 is here. they said they expoited it ages ago within days and writing a new buffer or something... they are doing all that they can 4.1 must be hard to jailbreak coz i cant remember waiting this long for a jb.
Hopefully it will be good. but with all you moaning people about 4.0.1 with jailbreakme and saying this and that doesnt work. so in a way i dont blame them.

The iPhone 4 was out for almost a month and a half before Star was released.
Please give me one logical reason as to why they should wait for iOS 4.2 to drop before they release the new jailbreak. It is a bootrom exploit so once the jailbreak is cleaned up and ready, they will only need to make relatively minor revisions to the jailbreak program in order for it to work on future iOS updates. The same exploit will be used, it will just have to have updated packaging, just like redsn0w is updated by the Dev team.
I don't know why, but there seems to be a lot more people posting your same view today than normal.
